Richard Cocchiara
Distinguished Engineer & CTO for IBM
Richard is an IBM Distinguished Engineer and the Chief Technology Officer for Business Continuity and Resiliency Services in IBM Global Services, specializing in helping customers drive higher business resiliency in order to realize increased business availability. He has over 25 years of I/S experience and has performed consulting engagements to many fortune 500 companies, particularly in the finance and securities industry.
Experience and Accomplishments
He is responsible for both long-term strategy and development of Business Continuity & Resiliency solutions and services within IBM Global Services. Starting with an idea that IBM could provide a holistic approach to driving higher business resiliency, Richard has developed a methodology and framework that assists customers in reducing the risks associated with stress to their business. This is done through improved strategy, processes, technology, organization, applications, data and facilities using four mitigating strategies of availability, continuity, recovery and security. He has personally developed and delivered on this new methodology by bringing these strategies together to emphasize prevention over reaction to IT problems and risks.
Prior to accepting his current position, Richard was the national practice leader for high availability services in the United States and an availability consultant to many large financial and securities clients. He meets regularly with the CIO’s of major companies to provide new recommendations on how to improve IT infrastructure resilience and has been a featured speaker at many major technical and industry conferences around the world. He has received several IBM awards for his efforts and numerous customer letters of appreciation. His experience in IS include positions in computer operations, production control, application development, systems engineering and availability management.
Education and Background
He has received a Masters of Science degree in Management Information Systems from Marist College and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Pace University with an emphasis on Management Information Systems.
